Cookie policy

Short version: this site does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, which is why there is no cookie banner nagging you. Last updated 19 August 2026.

What we do use

Cookies and browser storage are limited to what is strictly necessary for the site to work, which is why we do not have to ask your permission for them.

Analytics, and why it needs no banner

We do measure how the site is used, with Vercel Analytics. We are calling that out plainly rather than filing it under strictly necessary, because it is not: we could run the site without it. It needs no banner for a different reason, which is that it is cookieless. It sets nothing on your device and reads nothing from it. Our view is that the rules about asking permission to store things on your computer therefore do not apply, because those rules are about reading from and writing to your device, and this reads and writes nothing. It works instead from your IP address and browser details, which your browser sends with every request anyway. We should be straight that this is our reading rather than a settled question: the regulator's position on techniques that identify a device without cookies is still moving. If it moves against us, we will put a banner up rather than argue. The privacy notice explains that side of it and how to object.

If that changes

If we ever add anything that needs your consent, we will ask for it properly first and update this page.
